Tips for getting the swab test on Monday

We will be having our next swab test on Monday (August 23, 2021). Let’s face it. No matter how much you prepare for it, getting a swab test is an uncomfortable but necessary reality during this pandemic.

Practice keeping still.

Do not make unnecessary movements. Imagine yourself as a statue or maybe even as a model in a photo shoot. For the test to be performed, you will need to be absolutely still for five seconds. Since our swab test always happens before we start working, use this time to clear your mind as a way of getting ready for the day. Train your mind to be calm. Who knows? Maybe you’ll develop super powers.

Bend from the neck.

This is not a round of limbo rock. Your head and your nasal passages need to be at a certain angle for the swab test to be performed. Lean forward slightly, look up, and bend from the neck. The test administrator will give you instructions so listen to them. Pay attention. Position your head as directed, so they can place the swab at the correct angle.

Change your focus.

Distract yourself from the discomfort. Think of other things. Focus all your mental attention on squeezing a stress ball. It could be a useful technique to focus on one of your senses. For me, it’s focusing on the song playing in my ear and singing in my head. Try to avoid songs that might make you want to dance though.

All other reminders still apply.

Wear your face mask still. When the test is about to be performed on you, you present your nose but your face mask should still be covering your mouth.

If you have a stuffy nose or coughing, you should stay home. Remember that the swab test administrator will be able to see what is inside your nose and will be able to tell if you have the colds.
